| TRACK AND FIELD IN ITALY - England and USA were the first modern countries in organizing track and field events at the end of 19th century. Following to the foundation of federations in many countries all over the world, in 1912 was born the IIAF (International Amateur Athletic Federation, www.iaaf.org) still coordinating events on a world scale.
In Italy interest in gymnastics and running had been increasing since the end of 1800 and at the beginning of the new century first big sporting centres were built. It was the 1926 when the FIDAL (Federazione Italiana di Atletica Leggera, www.fidal.it) was founded; nowadays Italy counts more than 127.000 athlets and 2.700 clubs. |
