RICCIONE and its sea Probably the name comes from “Arcione” (horse saddle): in fact on the Via Flaminia, an ancient road dated back to the Roman period (220 b.C.), there was a post stage for the change of horses. Riccione too was ruled by the Malatesta, the lords of Rimini, as feud of the marchesi Agolanti, who built a castle in the high part of Riccione.
